Aquatic Physical Therapy

Aquatic Physical Therapy is a form of rehabilitation performed in a heated (91˚) aquatic environment. It includes but is not limited to treatment, prevention, health & wellness and fitness of patient populations. Treatment programs are designed and based on a Physical Therapist’s evaluation. The program is established to focus on any areas of concern and is carefully supervised by the therapist.

How does Aquatic Physical Therapy work?

  • It reduces the amount of stress on all weight bearing joints making most exercises less painful.
  • Warm water minimizes joint and muscle pain.
  • Gravity is reduced or eliminated making it easier to exercise.
  • Water provides a natural resistance for strengthening exercises to increase power and endurance.
  • Hydrostatic pressure of the pool can reduce swelling.
  • Water provides challenge to a patients balance and agility.
  • Swimming is an excellent way to improve aerobic capacity.
